BRADY BROTHER CHRIS KNIGHT

"I almost became a has-been after The Brady Bunch went off the air, said foxy Chris Knight. "After the show was cancelled I was an old man at 16. When I reached 17 I couldn't get a job. I know that's hard to believe," he said laughing, "but it's the truth. Everyone wants you to be 18 and if I heard it once I heard it a dozen times...I just don't look old enough."

"That's when I decided to take off for a year to learn who I am." Chris, who plays Peter on The Brady Bunch Variety Hour says, "I'm happy I did that. I went back to school and realized how much of show business was in my blood. Now if I had to, I would work for nothing. That's how much I love the business. I didn't realize this while I was doing The Brady Bunch the first time, but when you're away from it for a while, it sure hits you hard. Now that we're back together again, I'm delighted."

Chris, who was born in Manhattan on November 7, 1957, is one of four children. His father, Edward Knight, is a stage actor and thanks to good old dad, Chris is in the business. "It seems like yesterday when my dad came home from the studio and asked my brother Mark and me if we would like to do commercials. I was eight years old at the time. I thought it would be fun and I haven't stopped acting since."

Smiling, Chris went on, "At first I thought I might have a problem in school, thinking the other kids wouldn't talk to me because I was on television, but it wasn't like that at all. I guess because I never considered myself different than anyone else, neither did they. I gave an awful lot of myself in school, because I knew if I didn't, the kids wouldn't. I wanted them to get to know the real me. I guess that's why I consciously gave people the time to get to know me. I'm glad I did because I was included in everything. Sometimes being in show business can be harmful. Kids will just turn on you for no reason at all. Luckily that didn't happen to me."

"I think I'm smart enough to realize that every person isn't the same, but little by little I'm trying to find out what makes people tick. I'm honestly interested in the next person. You might say I'm a good listener." Winking he said, "I heard somewhere along the line that's very important!"

Although Chris isn't seeing anyone special now, he says, "I would like to create a real relationship with someone, but I don't think now is a good time. We're really working hard on the new Brady Bunch show and it wouldn't be fair for a girl right now. I wouldn't be able to devote as much time to her as I would like to."

Chris looks for naturalness in girls. "I enjoy knowing the real person. If someone is always on, it can get very annoying. I love girls with a good sense of humor, yet it's nice for them to be a but shy as well. I guess you can say I don't want a girl to be too aggressive. I guess that takes away from their femininity."

Chris drives to work in a pick-up truck and is proud of it. "Everyone wants to know when I'm getting a new car, but I think I would be lost without my truck. It's kind of my trademark," he said laughing.

Chris moved into his own apartment last April, but he admits he is still very close to his family. "I'm building model rockets with solid propellant engines, so I think for this reason alone my folks were glad I got my own place. My room at home was beginning to get small for all the rockets I was building."

As busy as Chris is these days with his singing, dancing, and studying lines, he manages to find time to enjoy some relaxing moments either body surfing, water skiing, scuba diving or riding motorcycles. "I'm really a but when it comes to sports and I love games and puzzles. There isn't an animal I don't love- dogs, cats, hawks, salt-water fish, hamsters- you name it, and I'm sure one time or another I've had them in my house. I was even into dinosaurs when I was a child!" he said laughing.
