Barry Williams has everything going for him. Rugged good looks, a charming personality, poise and the ability to know what he wants out of life and just how he's going to achieve it. In short, Barry, who plays Greg Brady, is something special!
"I've always loved show business," he said. "Ever since I was 11 years old I knew what I wanted. Luckily I met an agent who believed in me and tried to get me jobs. I always wanted to learn and you might say I 'was always there'." Laughing he said, "I might have gotten in some people's hair, but that's me. I still haven't changed. When we're shooting now I'm always rushing scenes. I'm always checking with the cameraman to see what kind of a lens he's using and why. It's not that I want to be behind the cameras, because I really love being in front, I just don't think it can hurt knowing about all facets of the business."
Barry, like the rest of the Brady kids, was very excited when he heard that they were bringing the show back. "I was in New York doing the Broadway show, Pippen when I received the call about the show going back on the air, and they would like me to be a part of it. I was thrilled but knew that the show would have to change. After all, since I'm 22 years old, I still couldn't be playing that little 16-year-old kid. I realize that the audience that we have identify with us, but they must know that we, too, grew up. When I was assured that the format would be different, giving each of us our own thing to do, I thought it sounded great. I was even more thrilled when I heard that everyone else wanted to do it, especially Florence Henderson and Bob Reed."
Smiling, he continued, "It sure was good seeing all the Bradys again. The network heads have good feelings for our shows, and if the specials go the way we all hope they will, the eight shows that they have scheduled will go into 22...I'm keeping my fingers crossed."
When Barry is busy with dancing and singing lessons, he manages to find time to run a couple of miles every morning on the beach. "That's the way I keep in shape," the foxy guy said. "I took this apartment on the beach so I can live the lazy life. I enjoy getting up and smelling the salt air and hearing the sound of waves. It gives me a tranquil feeling. When time permits, I'm on my board surfing. Lately, I haven't had the time, and I'm certainly not complaining, but when it comes I'm going to take every advantage."
Winking Barry said, "In fact, I just got back from Hawaii where I really had a ball. Surfing, sunning, you name it, I did it."
Barry enjoys adventure in his life. "One day I would love to pilot my own plane. I think that I would be terrific," he said. "I'm not into hang gliding; I'm not fearful of it, it just doesn't excite me. Piloting a plane is a different story. I don't know how excited the producers would be about that, but I'll let you know when the time comes," he said jokingly.
Although Barry loves pretty girls, he isn't talking about marriage right now. "My career is very important to me, and before I make a final commitment I want to know exactly where I'm going...besides, 22 is a bit young to be thinking of settling down, don't you agree?"
